For 12 pax, we'll likely charter vans for longer trips, as it's more more comfy than buses and not at all pricey. First trip was 3 hours from Chiang Mai to Pai.
We passed the first 30 minutes doing scaraoke, which, for the uninitiated, is Thai music karaoke, transliterated into English, and then sung in Thai by non-Thai-speaking non-singers. It was awesomely bad.
We wore ourselves out just in time for two hours of hairpin turns through picturesque mountain passes. At any given moment, we were inches, err millimeters, away from a chain reaction barf-o-rama. The view was breathtakingly beautiful, we think.
Highlight: We almost swerved off a cliff! The driver knocked over a stack of papers from the dash and a Penthouse (International Edition) fell out in plain sight. He lunged for it so Erin wouldn't see, saved face, and nearly killed us all. You gotta have priorities.
